DevBuildings User Guide

A Complete Guide for Project Management

Last Updated: December 2024

START

1. Getting Started

DevBuildings is an innovative project management tool that visualizes project progress as a building floor structure. Easily grasp complex projects at a glance and manage them efficiently with your team.

1.1 What is DevBuildings?

DevBuildings visualizes the progress of various projects - development projects, marketing campaigns, educational courses - as a building floor structure.

Key Features:

  • Intuitive building view for visual project structure understanding
  • Real-time progress tracking and status management
  • AI-powered automatic analysis for dev item generation
  • Team collaboration with real-time communication
  • 14 language support for global team collaboration
  • Why a Building Structure?

Buildings need a solid foundation (basement) before floors can be stacked on top. Projects are the same. Infrastructure and databases (basement floors) must be solid for user-facing features (above-ground floors) to work reliably.

    1.2 Creating an Account

    How to Sign Up:

  • Click "Start Free" on the homepage
  • Enter email and password or use Google login
  • Complete email verification (for email login)
  • Automatically redirected to dashboard
  • Tip: Using Google login lets you get started faster without email verification.

    Security Notes:

  • Passwords should be 8+ characters with letters and numbers
  • Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) for enhanced security
  • 1.3 Creating Your First Project

    Project Creation Steps:

  • Click "+ New Project" button on dashboard
  • Enter project name and company name
  • Select project type (10 options: Software, Marketing, Education, etc.)
  • Enter description (optional - AI will auto-design building structure)
  • Click "Create" button
  • AI Building Design:

When you enter a project description, AI automatically designs the optimal floor structure based on project size and characteristics. For example, entering "e-commerce platform with payment system" will have AI place items from database design to payment integration to frontend implementation on appropriate floors.

    Project Type Characteristics:

Each type provides an optimized default floor structure. Software development focuses on architecture/API/DB, while marketing centers on branding/channels/campaigns.

    2. Understanding Building View

Visualize your project as a building floor structure to see progress at a glance. Each floor represents a specific area of your project, with item statuses distinguished by color.

    2.1 Floor Structure

    Basement Floors (B1-B5):

Foundation systems, infrastructure, databases - elements invisible to users but essential to the project.

    Above Ground (1F-15F):

Actual features, screens, deliverables - elements visible to users.

    Floor Meaning Example (Software Development):

  • B5: Data Architecture and Modeling
  • B4: Database Design and Implementation
  • B3: Authentication/Authorization System
  • B2: API Gateway
  • B1: Core Business Logic
  • 1F-3F: Core User Features
  • 4F-8F: Additional Features and Extensions
  • 9F-12F: Testing and QA
  • 13F-15F: Deployment, Monitoring, Documentation
  • Customizing Floor Names:

Floor names can be modified to fit your project. Click the edit button next to the floor name to change it.

    2.2 View Modes

    CAD View (Default):

Clean, professional blueprint-style view. Composed of blueprint-style grids and lines.

    Modern View:

Contemporary view with gradients and shadows. Visually rich and suitable for presentations.

    Classic View:

Minimal style view. Focus on core information without distractions.

Switch views anytime using the buttons at the top right. Each view displays the same data in different styles with no functional differences.

    2.3 Managing Dev Items

Each floor can contain multiple development items (Dev Items). These represent actual work units.

    Adding Items:

  • Click "+" button on floor row
  • Enter item name (required)
  • Enter description (optional) - record detailed work content
  • Assign owner (optional) - team member name or role
  • Set priority (Low/Normal/High/Urgent)
  • Save
  • Changing Status:

  • Select status from dropdown
  • - Pending: Not yet started

    - In Progress: Currently working

    - Review: Awaiting review

    - Completed: Work finished

    - Blocked: Cannot proceed

  • Change status directly in building view
  • Bulk Editing:

  • Use "Bulk Edit" button to select multiple items
  • Change status of selected items at once
  • Quickly manage dozens or hundreds of items
  • 2.4 Progress Tracking

    Automatic Progress Calculation:

Each floor's progress is automatically calculated from the completion rate of its items. For example, 7 out of 10 items completed = 70%.

    Overall Project Progress:

View overall progress for each project on the dashboard. This is the aggregate of all floor items.

    Floor Status Colors:

  • Blue: Items in progress
  • Green: All items completed
  • Yellow: Some items blocked
  • Gray: Not yet started
  • Progress Visualization:

In building view, each floor's progress is shown as a bar graph. Completed floors visualize the building being constructed.
